A White Rainbow Quilt & GIVEAWAY
One of the perks of being an author is that I got a sneak peek of Stash Books' Spring Releases - and Modern Rainbow by Rebecca Bryan (of Bryan House Quilts)took my breath away. So I did the natural thing and wrote her an email demanding asking that she let me be a part of her blog hop. I was especially captivated by this quilt:
Now, I'm no good at making rainbows, but this quilt is just plain stunning, with or without color. So I sewed up a version of it in a palette that I could manage.
Don't laugh too hard at me, making a white & gray quilt from a rainbow book :) But!! That just goes to show that these quilts are fantastic because of their design, not just because they have fun colors. Although I could see myself making another version of this with some ombre involved...couldn't you?
This quilt - "Huckleberry" - was actually quite fast for me to stitch. No English paper piecing required!!
I wanted to experiment with something a little different, and used corduroy for the background of this quilt. I didn't put much thought into the nap direction as I pieced, and kind of just wanted to see how it ended up.
It's pretty fun to look at it from an angle to see how using this kind of a fabric brings different values & dimensions to a quilt top (kind of like shot cottons do).
As far as the rest of the book goes, the photography is stellar, the designs are innovative, and the directions were clear and easy. Most of the quilts are a lot simpler to construct than they look at first glance. Even if you aren't into rainbow quilts, there is something for you in this book. Which is a good thing, since I have a copy to give away :) :)
Now, since I've been going a little overboard with the blog hopping and giveaways these week (ahem, sorry about that), I'm going to ask you for a completely un-related comment....
Giveaway Rules!!
Leave me a comment telling me one quilty thing that you are loving right now, and one quilty thing that you are hating. I'm curious :) One entry per person, one winner will be chosen at random.
