Blogger's Quilt Festival: Home Machine Quilted
The second quilt I'd like to link up to the Blogger's Quilt Festival is my Something New Sampler. I've spent a lot of time on this guy and talked about it way too much, so my regular readers will have to excuse me!
I started with all of the blocks I made for the Something New Sampler QAL:
I knew I wanted a lot of negative space and settled on a fairly simple layout so that the block designs could shine.
I enhanced the rectangular, offset layout by straight line quilting some large rectangles around the set of blocks. Then I filled in the area inside with tons of pebbling.
I mean, tons. I probably spent 8 hours pebbling. It's my favorite pattern to quilt!!
Each time my bobbin thread ran out, I took a little break from the pebbling and worked on quilting the blocks, each with its own design.
Outside of the large rectangles, I free motion quilted some random straight lines. I love the contrast in texture between the straight lines and the pebbles!
I used a purple marker to draw out the lines ahead of time to make sure they stayed nice and straight.
I absolutely love all the different textures and learned a lot while quilting this guy. It was my first sampler, and I must admit, I'm itching to do one again!!
