Improv Herringbone: Take 2!

Remember my improv piecing? I made up this guy:

Well, I was thinking part of the reason I didn't like it might be because of the huge shifts in value - from a light piece to a dark piece and back...Maybe try the same method in some color with similar values? Time to sort out scraps and my Kona charm pack!

I made one block in red, trying to get the herringbone effect. I still wasn't sold. It seemed like an awful lot of work for something that just looked like scrap piecing.

So I thought I would add in some white to accentuate the herringbone pattern:

I really like it!

I think it'll look great surrounded by a lot of white. Hopefully I'll find time to make more soon so that I can reclaim my ironing board :).
