I swear I've been doing stuff...
Really! Though I did go through a bit of a funk the past few weeks, things have really picked up this past week. For starters, I finally had an idea for the PLAY mini quilt competition. You just make a mini quilt interpreting any playing card of your choosing. You can find more information about it here. I had been wanting to do this ever since I heard about it about a month ago, but didn't feel inspired. Luckily, inspiration struck and on Tuesday, I started with some improv piecing.
I hardly ever do this, so it has really been a step out of my comfort zone. I figured I would kill two birds with one stone and finish up my Indianapolis Modern Quilt Guild tear challenge. We all brought in pieces of yellow, aqua, and orange fabrics and tore sections off to get a large variety.
I used some of them up already in various projects, so I supplemented them with scraps and charm squares from the Rainbow Charm swap I did recently. We'll see if I finish it in time, since it's due on Monday!! I picked the Ace of Spades - we'll see how many people pick that one, since it's a really beautiful card (well...as far as cards go at least!).
I also got to the fabric store last Friday and bought some yardage for the Fire quilt backing. I had some good suggestions, but ended up seeing a black and white graphic print and knew that was the right way to go. I had initially picked one I liked a little better, but it was floral. Unfortunately. Flowers just did not go, in my mind! So I searched through the other black and white prints, and settled on this one, with black binding:
I've been trying to finish it up for the Blogger's Quilt Festival. It snuck up on me! So I've been quilting away :) Hopefully I'll finish in time to link up, since it's my big (almost done) accomplishment of the year.
